It was somewhere before dawn, and Irene snuggled in his claws. They’d finished the night at the club and then in true over masculine fashion Nyke had cornered her.

Not that she minded being cornered. Her body practically purred when he touched her. All night she had to fight back the growing need for him. Irene had found every excuse to touch him, smell him, smile at him.

You wouldn’t have known she had just had sex right before starting her shift, or hell, four times before the day had even faded into night.

She knew she should be content. Holy crap, did she know? How her vagina could feel sore and used and still ache for him the second he came near, she didn’t know.

How she could still drool for him across the club. She had it bad.

Irene had heard some of the women talk. She’d never engaged in conversations, just hung in the corner. But she’d heard them. She knew that most women were lucky to come once. It was pretty much unheard of if a man could go twice in one night.

Well, she supposed this was karma. She’d been dealt a shitty hand at life, and now karma was making up for it with Nyke.

Somewhere between being tired and happy, the tendrils of her fear popped up. What if her sister really didn’t want to see her? What if her happiness was temporary? What if he said the wrong thing and her bubble popped?

She clung to the massive claw holding her.

You’re alright, my mate?

Irene didn’t even jump this time, as she slowly got used to him being in her head.

Fine. Just thinking, she answered.

The dragon snorted as they continued to glide through the early morning skies.

Nyke had refused to sleep one more night in her bed. Or rather, he’d called it a primitive torture device.

Part of her assumed this was his way of getting her wherever he considered home.

What are you thinking, mate?

She nibbled her lower lip. Can’t you tell already?

The dragon's chest rumbled in what she assumed was laughter.

You do not want me invading your privacy. So tell me, mate. What are you thinking?

Irene wondered how she ever thought that giving herself to this dragon would be like selling her soul to something? Something else crept in and she wondered if she’d truly given herself to her dragon because of love, or was it just some other game? No. She couldn’t second guess herself. Then again, Irene wasn’t entirely sure she deserved this happiness.

What would happen if Nyke saw right through her? Saw the signs of her past? She didn’t deserve happiness.

Mate, what are you thinking?

She held onto his claw, realizing just how sharp it was. He was an excellent protector.

I keep wondering if maybe this is all a dream and if it’s not, am I being selfish?

They flew in peace for another moment before he answered.

Selfish? What do you mean?

His claw held her tightly, maybe like a hug. Subconsciously, he always seemed to know what she needed.

Selfish that I left my father to torture so many innocent lives while I’m here, happy.
